Emalahleni Local Municipality confirms with shock and heavy hearts the passing away of the Executive Mayor Cllr Linah Masellane Malatjie on the 2nd January 2022 through a horrific head on collision.

Death has robbed the Municipality not just a seasoned political leader but a caring mother to all the residents of Emalahleni. It is hard to come to terms with such a loss hardly 3 months of the new Local Government Administration wherein she was re-elected for the 2nd term to finish the work of the service delivery turn around strategy she was driving  within a leadership collective.

Cllr Malatjie held several leadership positions within and outside government as an educator, Deputy Director, Municipal Manager, and served the people of Emalahleni as the Executive Mayor in the 2nd, 4th and 5th administration, her commitment, dedication and hands on approach has earned her respect in both the public and private sector. She also served in the leadership of various MDM structures such as COSATU, ANC, ANCWL.

She will be remembered for her passion of Ubuntu Philosophy, Umuntu nguMuntu Ngabantu, she utilized any political and public platform to advance the spirit and culture of sharring, openness and mutual dependency. She believed strongly that United we stand, devided we fall as we confront challenges of service delivery, poverty, unemployment, cancer of corruption, any form of wrongdoing  and underperformance.

Indeed we will dearly miss a mother, a peacemaker and a selfless, ethical and visionary leader who embraced everyone irrespective of your status. The Municipal Baobab tree has fallen, her deep spiritual conviction and political moral compass was at the centre of her ethical leadership.

Cllr Linah Malatjie legacy lives on and we take solace from her contribution in building sustainable, capable, developmental Local Government Sphere. She also served in the leadership of SALGA  for many years. Her leadership legacy will be remembered beyond the final resting place of her mortal remains.

She ran a good race, fought a good fight and kept the hope of the new dawn. As a prayer person, service delivery warrior, may her Soul and that of her husband Mr. Essau Spetlela Malatjie rest in Peace and Rise in Glory.

Details of the funeral service will be communicated jointly with the family in due course.
